Editing the registry for portable devices can be a difficult task without the right tools to help you out. Fortunately, programs like CeRegEditor were developed to assist you in this task.
CeRegEditor allows using a Windows PC to edit the registry for portable devices that are based on Windows CE, PocketPC 2003 and Windows Mobile (WM5, WM6) operating systems. This way you will be able to use the large monitor of your computer, handy mouse and keyboard to edit the registry for the portable device.
It’s hard not to notice that the interface of CeRegEditor quite resembles the interface of the Windows’ default registry editor. There’s the same tree-like navigation panel on the left side and almost the same functions provided by the right-click context menu. The part that I truly appreciate is that, when it comes to features and functionality, CeRegEditor resembles the Windows registry editor as well. Though it is free and lightweight, its features are plenty.
There are also a lot of unique advanced functions that you won’t easily find within other registry editors, such as converting the format of exported registry files from REG to CAB and vice versa, or support for performing accurate registry comparison tasks.
I also like that CeRegEditor can be used without connecting the portable device to the computer. It can import and edit registry files of many kinds, including REG, RGU, HV, CAB, XML.
Briefly, I think that CeRegEditor should be considered more than a solution for editing the registry of only portable devices. It offers the numerous advanced features that make it a viable alternative to replace the default Windows’ registry editor completely.
